Constance
This bedside table is made from Ash, which is environmentally respectful as well as beautiful. I carefully hand-sand each piece, to reveal its individual history through the wood grain. The solid wood legs are elegantly tapered. This table honours Windrush activist Constance Mark. It stands proudly, as she stood up for unsung heroes.
Constance Winifred Mark, MBE
Constance was born Kingston, Jamaica in 1923 and was recruited at age 19. She worked at the British Military Hospital of Kingston and was eventually promoted to Corporal. After moving to London in the early 1950s, she became an activist, campaigning for the war efforts of Caribbean men and women to be honoured and remembered. In 1992, Connie was finally awarded the British Empire Medal for her service.
