This handcrafted bedside table has an honest sensibility, with naturally beautiful Pippy Oak heartwood, salvaged from the HS2 construction and hand-sanded to reveal its character. The beautifully tapered legs are made from solid wood. I’ve named it for Jane Austen, whose novels have graced so many nightstands around the world.
Jane’s novels detail early 19th-century life, with a clear look at how the law, inheritances, marriage and ‘shame’ affected women. From an early age, Jane wrote poems and stories to amuse her family. At age 14, she wrote a satirical novel, and in 1811, Jane’s brother Henry helped her negotiate to get Sense and Sensibility published. It was a success, but like all of her novels, was published anonymously. She has influenced generations of readers – and writers.
